About Me - Background / Training
I am trained and work as a neuropsychologist primarily for the Permanente Medical Group where I co-direct a pediatric sports concussion program, conduct general neuropsychological assessment services, and participate in a research group geared toward traumatic brain injury, my primary expertise area.
I also maintain a small, independent private practice focused on neuropsychological assessment primarily in the form of disability exams and in the med-legal realm.
Where I differ my peers is that I am board certified in rehabilitation psychology which has the aim of supporting recovery and enhancing inclusion and participation for persons with enduring disabilties. Whereas other neuropsychologists may provide assessment only ("diagnose and adios!") I have additional expertise in what comes next, after the diagnosis. This includes functional retraining and the development and implementation of compensatory strategies to help persons with residual impairment to maximize their independence. I also keep abreast of and support the the provision of evidence based care practices that best support a full return to all spheres of functioning.
