Neuropsychological Assessment
In my private practice I am available to conduct neuropsychological assessment, informed by significant training and experience in rehabilitation, for a broad range of purposes and conditions. This can include:
+ Independent Medical Evaluations
These evaluations are performed in the context of civil lawsuit claims. Examinations conducted on behalf of the plaintiff can offer diagnosis, provide evidence for level of impairment and subsequent disability, and cost estimates for care needs throughout the lifespan. For the defense, such exams can help to clarify causation, assess for response bias, and offer opinions on prognosis and whether treatment was reasonable or necessary.
+ Disability Examinations
I have experience in conducting examinations on behalf of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for service connection, Social Security, the Division of Workers Compensation (DWC), the Subsequent Injuries Benefits Trust Fund (SIBTF), and the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS). I can conduct a private disability exam that includes the necessary components and relevant content and phrasing that can be submitted with your claim as substantial medical evidence to support it. This can potential result in a decreased risk for denial and need to resubmit or appeal as well as, where appropriate, obtain a higher or more accurate rating.
+ QME / SIBTF / CalPERS Disability Examinations
I am certified by the State of California as a Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME #118085) and have experience conducting examinations for the above disability programs.
+ Academic Accommodation Examinations
Despite being essential for academic success, most educational testing and recommendations for academic accommodations are not covered by health insurance. Some schools or institutions will do some limited testing but it's possible there can be some conflict of interest in having it performed in that setting. I can conduct a comprehensive exam and outline a range or reasonable academic or testing accommodations that can support student success and maximize return on educational investment.
+ Dementia / Capacity Evaluations
As we age our brains do as well and while experience is an excellent teacher the fact is our brains are not as sharp at 60 as they were at 20. Unforuntately, for some, those changes can be more substantial raising the question of dementia or mild cognitive impairment. These changes can be impactful in decision making, and can deteriorate to the point where someone may no longer be able to make informed and consistent decisions or become at risk for self neglect, abuse or exploitation. I can conduct an exam that can assist the court on making an informed decision on matter such as conservatorship and safety planning or level of care.
+ ImPACT Concussion Testing
ImPACT is a widely used computer based testing protocol designed to assess cognitive performance or change, in the presence of a baseline, after concussion. Many students receive baseline testing within their schools prior to participation in contact sports. I can conduct follow up testing with or without that baseline and interpret the results to give you accurate information on what your status is as well as how that could be expected to manifest in academic or employment settings. This testing can even be conducted remotely, in the comfort of your home.
